It was underground hit in the United States, Canada, and UK, it forever changed the foundations of hip-hop and dance music and became one of the most effective pieces and a breakthrough and ultimately
 an icon of the hip-hop, breakdance, and electronical music culture.

It pioneered the genre and formed the electro style, building on the work of Kraftwerk and Yellow Magic Orchestra, combined with unique Roland TR-808 beats,
and paved the way for other genres such as techno, house and trance.

When it was released in 1982, "Planet Rock" reached #4 on the soul chart, peaked at #48 on the Hot 100 and went to #3 on the dance charts.

In 2004, "Planet Rock" was listed at #240 in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
